Board Member Overview

Arts Davidson County (ADC) appreciates your interest in serving on our Board of Directors and/or on one of our committees. This application will help us understand your qualifications and interest in serving the organization. ADC’s mission is to nurture the development of a diverse and thriving arts environment throughout Davidson County.

Our Board of Directors is a working board committed to leadership, service, and advocacy. Serving on the board is a voluntary position and typically requires a commitment of 8–12 hours per month. Board members are essential in making policy and management decisions and ensuring the continued success of ADC's mission across Davidson County.

Board Member Responsibilities

As a Board Member of ADC, you are expected to:

Governance & Organizational Development (Regional Level)

  • Attend semimonthly board meetings (held on the fourth Tuesday evening every other month). Board members should come prepared to actively participate in discussions and decisions.

  • Participate in occasional special meetings, retreats, or full-day planning sessions as needed.

  • Comply with ADC’s policies, including the Conflict of Interest Policy, Code of Conduct, and Zero Tolerance Policy

  • Support the development and oversight of the organization, including:

    • Participating in the annual membership drive and fundraising events.

    • Serving on at least one committee (standing or ad hoc), which may meet in-person or virtually.

    • Assisting with grant reviews, including panel service when requested.

Community Engagement & Representation (County Level)

  • Serve as an information liaison between ADC and your community:

    • Keep local individuals and organizations informed about ADC opportunities and events.

    • Share community needs, ideas, and feedback with ADC leadership.

  • Promote local arts initiatives by:

    • Attending and reporting on community arts events, including those funded by ADC.

    • Helping to publicize local cultural events throughout the county and region.

Board Member Requirements

To maintain a strong, committed board, members must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: Must be a resident of Davidson County, North Carolina.

  • Age: Must be at least 25 years old.

  • Time Commitment: Commit approximately 8–12 hours per month, including meetings, committee work, and community engagement.

  • Meeting Attendance: Regular attendance at semimonthly board meetings is mandatory, as is participation in occasional special sessions or retreats.

  • Committee Involvement: Serve on at least one committee and participate actively in its work.

  • Fundraising: Take an active role in fundraising efforts, including donor outreach, sponsorships, and events.

  • Personal Giving: Make an annual financial contribution at a personally meaningful level. This is required of all board members to demonstrate commitment and help leverage additional funding.

  • Ambassadorship: Serve as a visible and vocal advocate for ADC in your local community and across the region.

  • Organizational Integrity: Abide by ADC’s policies, uphold ethical standards, and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative board culture.
